7 September 1943 Division comments on the diary for
Secret. Commander, 3rd Security Division, 7 September 1943, G 6044 AIII. To Commander of Security Forces West; copies to 46th Minesweeping Flotilla, two, and Saint-Malo escort office. Three enclosures. War diary for 1–15 August submitted in one copy, engineering section in duplicate.
Group A diary: no comments. Group B diary, 11 August: the purpose of the order was to protect the motor torpedo boats damaged in an air attack at L'Aberwrac'h and now returning to Saint Peter Port.
Group C diary, 4 August: the convoy formation is not clear from the sketch. Apparently M 4607 was being towed by M 4600, as on 9 August. If it was known from the outset that M 4607 could not maintain the other vessels' cruising speed, taking the vessel along was a mistake.
Additional instruction to the flotilla: encounters with vessels outside one's own formation and the ES exchanges made on those occasions do not belong in the war diary when the proceedings are routine.
