7 October 1944 Channel Islands Sea Defence diary
08:00 weather: north-east force 10, sea 5–7, visibility four nautical miles, wholly overcast, cloud base 800 metres. All planned convoys cancelled owing to weather. 11:30 weather: east-north-east force 4–9, sea 4–7, visibility four nautical miles, wholly overcast, cloud base 1,000 metres, hazy. From 16:00 one destroyer sighted on each northern and southern waiting station.
17:19–17:21: Elsass, Alderney, fired on a Mustang travelling north to south. No hits observed; 113 rounds of 2-cm ammunition expended. 18:00 weather: east force 6–8, sea 3–4, visibility twelve nautical miles, heavily overcast, cloud base 1,000 metres.
22:10: order to subordinate Guernsey units and broadcast to all on H.S.K.: firing on and illumination of aircraft prohibited for all weapons from 23:00 to 04:00, except if enemy aircraft attack. Measure protects two announced supply aircraft for Guernsey.
