Diary Entry
7–10 July 1940
The Naval Commander Northern France reported that there were still no serviceable coastal guns on the Channel Islands. Luftgau Command 3 was asked to arrange anti-aircraft protection against air and sea targets for Guernsey and Jersey. The 6th Army assumed responsibility for protecting the islands but warned that it could not supply permanent coastal-artillery batteries immediately; mobile batteries and temporary measures were therefore considered.
Luftflottenkommando 3 was instructed to transfer a 6.8-cm anti-aircraft battery to Guernsey as soon as sea transport from Cherbourg could be arranged. A light anti-aircraft half-battery was to be stationed on each of Jersey and Guernsey, with further weapons and personnel to follow as transport and equipment became available.
