6 September 1943 Higher command criticises convoy leader positioning
Secret. Commander Security Forces West, G 10920 A5, 6 September 1943. To Naval High Command, Naval War Staff; copies to 3rd Security Division and 46th Minesweeping Flotilla. Enclosed: Groups A, B and C diaries for 1–15 July with engineering section and divisional comments. No comments.
Addition for division and flotilla, concerning M 4613's diary, 10 July 00:15 page 21, divisional comments, and Group C diary, 9 July 22:40 page 31: M 4600 was also incorrectly positioned during the convoy task of 9 July. The convoy commander's boat must not be the guide boat, so that it remains free to manoeuvre in critical situations. M 4600 should have taken a flank escort position. For the commander: Chief of Staff. Registry and archive-forwarding endorsements follow.
