6 November 1944 Civilian stocks and Red Cross supply

Channel Islands supply: Commander-in-Chief West gives advance telephone notice that Armed Forces Operations Staff has ordered access to all civilian stocks and reduction of civilian rations to subsistence minimum, referring them to vegetable produce. This decides the matter in accordance with my request. The rapid decision probably resulted from the Commander-in-Chief, Navy’s personal intervention. Commander, Channel Islands, informed.

The difficult situation into which the island civilians will shortly fall must be remedied through political measures.
