6 August 1944
St Malo was described as completely encircled. The fortress reported air attacks, artillery fire and enemy armour advancing towards the defensive perimeter. Naval and anti-aircraft personnel were placed under the Fortress Commandant, and a night fire concentration by available batteries and Army artillery was arranged against enemy troops and vehicles.
The diary recorded approximately 200 gross registered tonnes under escort in Channel Islands traffic. Remaining craft were organised for the St Malo–St Helier route, including the Kimose Bruggatis with escorts, while the command acknowledged that regular island supply could no longer be guaranteed.
