Weather: Westerly, fresh breeze to strong wind; fair to cloudy; moderate to fairly rough sea; visibility 10–15 nautical miles, isolated coastal fog in the morning.
0210, Jersey: V 212/08 released La France and continued with the remainder to Guernsey. 0530, Guernsey: V 212/08 arrived with convoy from Malo.
Commander, Security Forces West reports that the Casquets garrison has disappeared and a British raid is assumed. Boats of the Convoy Control Office made no observations; a negative report was sent to that command.
0630, Cherbourg: V 207/09 sailed with convoy for Alderney. 0815, Jersey: M 4604/05 sailed with Corona for Malo. 0915, Alderney: V 207/09 with convoy, “sailed to Cherbourg” [retained as written; the next movement is to Guernsey]. 0950, Alderney: V 207/09 sailed with convoy for Guernsey. 1200, Jersey: M 4601/11 sailed with Claus-Wilhelm for Granville. 1300, Guernsey: V 207/09 arrived with convoy from Alderney.
Requests: (1) Claus-Wilhelm Jersey–Granville; (2) combined convoy Granville–Jersey–Guernsey; (3) Corona Jersey–Malo; (4) Georgi and Franka Cherbourg–Alderney; (5) Georgi, Claus, Elbe and one barge Alderney–Guernsey; (6) night troop convoy Georgi and Elbe Guernsey–Alderney; (7) night troop convoy Minotaure from Guernsey and La France and Sperber from Jersey to Malo. I assign M 4601/11 to (1), then M 4611/01 to (2); M 4605/04 to (3); V 207/09 successively to (4), (5) and (6), the latter during the night leading into 6 September; V 212/08 to (7).
The following was sent to 3rd Security Division. Situation for 5 September: (1) V 207/09 Cherbourg–Alderney with Georgi and Franka, then Alderney–Guernsey with Georgi, Claus, Elbe and one barge; (2) V 707/04/02/10/213 ready at Guernsey; (3) V 212/08 completing the night troop convoy of 4/5 September Malo–Jersey–Guernsey with La France, Minotaure, Schokland and RO 21, later night troop convoy of 5/6 September with Minotaure from Guernsey and La France and Sperber from Jersey to Malo; (4) M 4605/04 Jersey–Malo with Corona; (5) M 4611/01 Jersey–Granville with Claus-Wilhelm, then combined convoy Granville–Jersey–Guernsey. Escorted tonnage: 11,800 GRT.
Intentions for 6 September: (1) V 207/09 night troop convoy with Georgi and tug Elbe Guernsey–Alderney, then Alderney–Cherbourg with Georgi, Elbe, a double barge, Dorsch and Antonius; (2) V 707/04 from Guernsey with tugs Ostsee and Normandie II for Malo and Claus for Jersey; (3) V 702/10/213 with tugs Labaure, D 116 S, D 119 S and B 110 S, barge H 29 [as printed here] and Heinrich Guernsey–Lézardrieux; (4) V 212/08 completing the night troop convoy of 5/6 September, then ready at Malo; (5) M 4611/01 ready at Guernsey.
1515, Granville: M 4601/11 arrived with Claus-Wilhelm from Jersey. 1550, Malo: M 4605/04 arrived with Corona from Jersey. 1600, Granville: M 4601/11 sailed with Tourane, Nestor, Compt. 66, Georges, Guynemer, H 31, H 321, Bizon, B. à Pitre [name abbreviated/indistinct] and Compt. 51 for Jersey [the convoy line contains corrections]. 2000, Jersey: M 4611/01 released the convoy because of the weather, continuing only with Bizon to Guernsey. 2245, Guernsey: V 212/08 sailed with Minotaure for Jersey–Malo. 2350, Guernsey: M 4611/01 arrived with Bizon from Granville.
