5 May 1942 Jersey Harbour Commandant diary
St Helier: Wind west force 2, sea 1–2, long westerly swell, fog. La Corbière light shown 0100–0640, harbour leading light 0200–0640, Sorel Point 0500–0645. 0630, Plémont: Report from the artillery strongpoint to the duty officer: coastal motor sailing vessel Favorit stranded at Plémont at about 0330. The vessel lies below a steep cliff about 120 metres high. Rope of sufficient length is required to recover the men and weapons. 0730: Harbour Commandant’s salvage party on site with equipment. The men and some of the weapons and ammunition are brought to safety. The ship sinks as the tide rises. Salvage is impossible owing to the extensive leaks, heavy surf and dense fog. 1100: Ship capsized. La Corbière light shown 2300–0300.
