Diary Entry
5 April 1943 Channel Islands Sea Defence diary
Weather: wind 315°, 3 m/sec. From 08:00 to 24:00, Batteries Annes and Elsaß and Army Coast Battery 436 [number as printed] conducted practice firing at a high-speed towed target.
Ammunition expenditure: Batterie Annes, 40 rounds 15-cm; Army Coast Battery 436, 36 rounds 15-cm. Batterie Annes abandoned its night run because the high-speed towed target was too small at the assigned range and approaching more closely was impossible because of navigable-water constraints. Six rounds 15-cm had been fired. The run was to be repeated against an 8 × 40-cm [unit as printed; possibly an error] sled target. Batterie Elsaß abandoned its daylight run because the battery dispersion was too great; 18 rounds 17-cm had been fired.
