Enemy aircraft attacked the radar installations at Cap d’Antifer and in the Gris-Nez/Batterie Todt area. Cherbourg’s radar, signals and station installations were also bombed, together with targets at Le Tréport, Le Havre and on the Boulogne–Calais coast. Personnel and equipment losses were recorded at several positions, although many reports stated that the batteries remained operational.
Bastion II and targets in the Rouen area, including bridges and transport links, came under attack. The heavy coastal batteries Grosser Kurfürst and Lindemann, the Bangatte area and positions near Gravelines were bombed or strafed. German anti-aircraft units reported engagements and claims against the attacking formations.
In Normandy, attacks were reported against Grandcamp, Arromanches and other coastal positions. The command continued to interpret the air offensive as preparation directed at artillery, radar, headquarters and communications immediately behind the invasion coast.
