Diary Entry
30 June-1 July 1944
Battery Blucher, Alderney, fired harassing fire at Herqueville and Jobourg in support of Kampfgruppe Keil. Four harbour-defence boats were transferred to Alderney for possible transport duties. Two boats sailed from Alderney at 02:00 to search for a cutter from the Jobourg peninsula but returned at 05:50 after an unsuccessful search in heavy fog. Following the loss of the Cherbourg artillery arsenal, the Naval Artillery Weapons Command on Guernsey became an independent technical office and assumed responsibility for the naval batteries on Alderney. Klaus Wilhelm, Gerfried, Georgi, Spinel and Franka sailed from Jersey to St Malo carrying 634 members of 1st S-boat Brigade, 58 SS men, 458 OT members, 28 military and civilian detainees, 43 foreign nationals, 46 women and one British prisoner of war. Franka also carried ammunition and Gerfried carried torpedoes.
The diary reported that no supplies for the islands had reached St Malo during the reporting period. Only the small quantities of ammunition received could be loaded, and enemy naval and air forces were increasingly monitoring and obstructing traffic between the mainland and the islands.
