Diary Entry
3 June 1944
The diary noted that recent attacks had for the first time been directed against Channel Islands strongpoints and Luftwaffe radar installations on Guernsey. [T-1022/2174, PG 38468, scan 0292]
The morning report revised the Wimille losses and noted work to restore radar and communications. Enemy aircraft again attacked the radar and artillery positions at Jobourg, Marcouf and La Pernelle, the Rouen area, and the Luftwaffe station at Cap de la Hague. Flying-boat and aircraft incidents were reported off the coast, while batteries and anti-aircraft units continued to engage passing formations.
Further bombing and low-level attacks affected Longues, Cap d’Antifer, the Seine–Somme sector and other coastal positions. The diary described very heavy enemy air activity over the whole command area, but judged the immediate German personnel and material losses to be comparatively limited.
The daily assessment said that attacks on coastal communications and observation systems had intensified. The movement or redeployment of Battery 725 was also discussed as part of the response to the air offensive.
