29 May 1942 St Malo convoy diary

St Malo. Strong SW wind, moderate sea, visibility 10–15 nautical miles, patches of haze. Stormy weather again prevents the barge convoy to Jersey and Guernsey, already postponed for days. Other convoys completed as ordered. Commander-in-Chief West inspects boats and crews; I give him a briefing on the convoy situation.

Correction to 28 May, item 2: V 207/02 Cherbourg–Alderney with Lena. Situation: V 209/703 Jersey–St Malo continuation with Minotaure, RO 45 and Holland, then ready; V 207/02 Guernsey–St Malo unescorted; V 204/08 ready St Malo for 29/30 May night troop convoy Derfflinger and Ad. le Prince to Jersey, H 49 and Nordplaine to Guernsey; V 206/11 Jersey–Guernsey continuation with H 13, then ready for 29/30 May RO 8 troop convoy to Alderney; V 213 ready Cherbourg; SF 108/110 ready St Malo. Tonnage 9,000 GRT.

Intentions for 30 May: V 209/703 and V 207/02 ready St Malo; V 208/04 Jersey–Guernsey continuation with H 49 and Nordplain, then ready; V 206/11 Alderney–Cherbourg with convoy not yet known, then ready, occupy ordered position at night if weather permits; V 213 ready Cherbourg; SF 108/110 St Malo–Jersey–Guernsey day convoy with tugs and barges as planned for 26 May, weather permitting.
