29 June 1943 Aircraft credit recommendations following the Sark attack
Editorial note: Retrospective German claims and administrative recommendations for the 15 June attack; not independent confirmation of aircraft losses.
Third Security Division, G 4191 A II, 29 June 1943. To Commander Security West, copy flotilla. Regarding 15 June Sark attack, reference G 4157 of 22 June. Submitted claim for five British aircraft with eleven witness statements.
Flotilla Commander states only aircraft crashing astern was definitely shot down solely by M 452; others fell to joint defensive fire. Request sole credit to M 452 for one Whirlwind and shared silhouettes for remaining four for M 442, M 422, M 483, M 452 and M 444. If replacement for sunk M 483 supplied and crew transferred, request transfer of shared silhouettes. M 343 is intended replacement; division supports requested credits and its right to carry M 483 silhouettes.
Action again proved readiness and proficiency of flotilla. Urgent need for shields on 3.7-cm and 10.5-cm guns repeatedly emphasised by formation, division and flotillas. Proposals for improved liferaft mountings awaited. Acting, Notholt.
