27 May 1942 St Malo convoy diary

St Malo. Gentle S–SW breeze, slight to moderate sea, visibility 10–15 nautical miles. 07:45: divisional G 9160 of 26 May places patrol pair 703/23 temporarily at the convoy office’s disposal; the boats enter St Malo. 09:50: division telephones that higher orders postpone Sperrbrecher 6 and Olwe’s convoy a further twenty-four hours. The harbour commandant’s requested night troop convoy with three steamers via Jersey to Guernsey is carried out by V 209/703. Divisional patrol positions are not occupied because of bad weather. [Boat numbers in the allocation and subsequent assignments differ in the original.]

Correction to 26 May, item 2: V 207/02 Cherbourg–Alderney with Heinrich, Claus and Schwalbe. Situation: V 209/703 St Malo–Jersey night troop convoy 27/28 May with Minotaure, Karel and Holland; V 207/02 ready Cherbourg, position unoccupied because of weather; V 204/08/11 ready St Malo; V 206 raising steam St Malo; V 726 St Malo boiler damage; SF 108/110 ready St Malo. Tonnage 1,750 GRT.

Intentions for 28 May: V 209/703 Jersey–Guernsey continuation with Minotaure and Karel; V 207/02 ready Cherbourg; V 204/08/11 ready St Malo; SF 108/110 day convoy as planned for 26 May, weather permitting; V 704/12 ready St Malo, convoy west when weather permits.
