Normandy radar reporting station — 1944-04-27
Night 27/28 April. Normandy Radar Reporting Station, top-secret register 91/44. Wind W–NNW3–4, visibility 8–10 nautical miles, sea 1–2. Eight E-boats Cherbourg westwards tracked by FuMO214 Jobourg to 30 km. Three torpedo boats departed Cherbourg eastward on special operation and returned, tracked very well. Mammut Jobourg tracked several fast targets 0410–0054 [sic] from left centre BF3172 to lower centre 3149; callsign Review doubtful.
FuMO214 Jobourg detected several small sea targets 0202 at 268 hectometres, course east, speed 30–32 knots. 0213 in upper-right BF3519 changed course 270° towards right centre 3518; lost 0335. Same targets tracked by FuMO51 Cap de la Hague II0211–0309 from upper-right BF3519 to centre 3518. Jobourg reacquired same targets 0340–0431 in right-edge centre BF3518 moving back and forth, probably enemy fast boats. Commander E-boats continuously informed.
FuMO214 Jobourg detected new target 0224: several medium sea targets at 443 hectometres in left centre BF3516. Course south to 0255 in upper-left edge 3516; then west to centre 3512, then south to upper-left edge 3515; 0326 course change NW to centre 3179. Targets lost there 0354 at 516 hectometres. Single-line interception bearing by Haifisch interception station in same sea area. Probably destroyers. FuMO214 Jobourg detected third target 0314 in upper-left edge BF3512, several medium targets on SW course; lost 0311 [sic] in centre 3511. Probably also destroyers.
Normandy interception network bearing on enemy shipborne radar emitter 0208 in centre BF3616, northward to lower-right 3613 at 0235. Air Force reporting post 8/3 reports 0322: four or five fighter-bombers in BF3553 ordered by ground station to wait for “customers”, probably meaning own torpedo boats or E-boats. Bomb attacks upon arrival of four minesweepers from Jersey and eight E-boats from west. Twenty-six locating signals for navigational assistance; four concerning enemy targets.
