26 September 1942 Channel Islands Sea Defence diary
Weather: wind from 360°, 3 metres per second. No special occurrences.
Construction, Naval Artillery Battalion 604 — Batterie Mirus. Guns 1–4: work on ammunition-transport tracks and supply tunnels continued; backfilling at the bunkers progressing. Fire-control post: accommodation-bunker work progressing, base complete; excavation for the connecting bunker to finish in a few days. Temporary long-base apparatus nearing completion.
Batterie Strassburg: provisional expansion of the existing auxiliary fire-control post to begin, provided the requested timber was delivered. Otherwise no special changes.
Batterie Steinbruch: interior work on the surrounding structures at Nos. 1 and 2 continued. Provisional installation of command-transmission equipment at both complete. No. 3 surrounding structure poured. Auxiliary fire-control post two-thirds complete.
Naval Artillery Battalion 605 — Batterie West. Fire-control post: preparations for shuttering; excavation for the accommodation bunker continued. Turret 1: concreting after lowering the top of the structure by 30 cm. Turrets 2 and 3: reinforcement work. Turret 4: formwork removed. Machinery bunker: work suspended. Galley and communal room: shuttering of galley cellar. Erection of the Flanders-type and double fences begun; construction of positions for all-round defence.
