Normandy radar reporting station — 1944-04-25

Night 25/26 April. Wind W–N3–4, visibility 5–10 nautical miles, sea 1–2. FuMO2 Guernsey II detected several enemy targets 0021 at 175 hectometres in upper-right BF2666. To lower centre BF2669 at 25 knots; there on northerly course 0043. At 0101 set lost targets in centre BF2669 in close-range area. FuMO2 Guernsey I and Air Force large search station Goldfisch, directed onto them, detected nothing. Targets not reacquired subsequently. According to set description and detection range, probably fast boats. Against detected targets 0040–0150 [continued].

Continuation of 25/26 April. Battle connection with Naval Artillery Battalion 604 and Army Coastal Artillery units I/1263, III/1262, II/1262. Coastal batteries of Sea Commandant Channel Islands fired. Normandy interception network detected enemy shipborne radar emitter from 2240 in lower-right BF3176 via left centre 3134 to centre 3176. From 0045 target moving back and forth, probably patrol for callsign Skipper. From 0240 several emitters in centre BF3616 via 3615, 3616, 3624, 3625, 3622, 3287, 3276, 3273, 3275, 3271 to 3193 at 0639.

Metal-strip interference: FuMO214 Jobourg 0040–0131,15–90°, 205–215°; FuMO214 Cap Lévy 0045–0135,270° through 0° to 45°. Strong own formations returning in early morning made sea-target detection impossible because excessive target echoes. Radar-equipped aircraft as sea reconnaissance 0155–0240 along Herz route between points 252 and 324. E-boats entering from east detected by FuMO51 La Pernelle 0442 at 375 hectometres. One locating signal for navigational assistance; 21 concerning enemy targets.
