Editorial note: These are exercise instructions for 24–28 February, using assumed combat situations; they do not describe actual attacks.
I. Within the "Tannhäuser" exercise radio traffic ordered by reference 2, intelligence reporting under reference 1 is to be practised throughout the Seventh Army area, on the orders of Commander-in-Chief West, from 24 to 28 February 1944 inclusive, on the assumption that telephone and teleprinter connections have failed.
II. The following is ordered. 1. Morning and evening reports are to be submitted as exercise reports from divisions upward, at the ordered times and with the prescribed organisation of contents, under reference 1, C.I and II and D.I and II. Reports are to be drafted in a strongly abbreviated form suitable for radio. For all divisions deployed on the coast, one regimental headquarters is also to participate; for 319th Infantry Division, all occupied islands are to participate.
2. All exercise days are assumed to be days of major battle. Reports are to be submitted accordingly, reference 1, D.I. 8.
3. Report contents are to be drawn from arbitrarily assumed war situations. Frequent use is to be made of British, American and Free French unit designations.
