Diary Entry
2 September 1943 August civilian attitudes and counterintelligence report
Civilian attitudes and conduct: events in Sicily, the collapse of Fascism and British radio commentaries have removed the last doubts about the war’s outcome from the great majority of French civilians. Individual observations confirm this internal attitude despite outwardly correct behaviour. These include Channel Islands inhabitants’ efforts to dispose quickly of Reich Credit Office notes in circulation, and the increasing reluctance and reserve of lower French authorities in dealings with 389th Division.
