Diary Entry
2 September 1942 St Malo Convoy Control Office
Weather: Wind turning south-east to south-west; weak breeze; fair to cloudy; visibility 10 nautical miles. Night forecast: deteriorating visibility with light precipitation; very calm to calm sea. Actual weather during 2/3 September: south-west, strong to stiff wind, considerable sea and poor visibility.
0130, Jersey: V 212/08 sailed with Minotaure and Robert Müller 8 for Malo. 0150, Alderney: V 707/04 arrived with convoy from Guernsey. 0645, Malo roadstead: V 212/08 anchored with convoy.
3rd Security Division's teletype FS 13855 instructs that the ship-reporting service's night movements be transmitted to the various authorities three hours before sunset. I arrange that Harbour Commandant Alderney, whose reports often fail to arrive or arrive late, send sailing intentions over the HS [harbour-protection] wavelength. It is pointed out that, as darkness increases and the submission deadline becomes earlier, the reports become less accurate and frequently require correction.
1045, Guernsey: M 4605/01 sailed with Nordplain and Mazagan for Jersey–Granville. 1200, St Malo: M 4604/11 sailed with Corona, Kochelsee, Heinrich and B 123 S for Jersey–Guernsey. 1200, Alderney: V 707/04 sailed with Georgi, Lena and Schwalbe for Cherbourg.

The following was sent to 3rd Security Division. [Item 5 is retained as printed; the movements and allocations distinguish M 4605/01 with Mazagan from M 4604/11 with the Guernsey convoy.] Escorted tonnage: 5,400 GRT.
