Diary Entry

19 October 1942 Readiness for the night of 19–20 October

Editorial note: Additional dated readiness instructions applying to the islands; an alert is not evidence that an attack occurred.

Light winds, moderate seas, low cloud, patchy rain and morning haze favoured enemy operations, though cloud hindered some flying. Heightened readiness was ordered from midnight for this corps’ coast and islands and 709 Division, without fuel use. Divisions lifted it between 08:35 and 09:10; corps reported cancellation at 09:10 on 20 October.
