Diary Entry
17-19 August 1944
Channel Islands observation posts reported extensive enemy shipping around Cherbourg. From 22:44 to 22:54 on 17 August the Alderney Artillery Group engaged a radar-located target east and south-east of Alderney, forcing it onto the opposite course and away at maximum speed. On 19 August a Guernsey-Jersey convoy was attacked by two destroyers twelve nautical miles south of Guernsey. Four Jersey batteries and two Guernsey batteries, including Mirus, successfully supported it. The destroyers withdrew westwards and the convoy entered Jersey complete. A premature burst in Battery 6./1265, Jersey, killed one man and wounded five; M 432 suffered a hit to its main steam pipe and one fatality. [T-1022/2175, scans 0159-0188]
