16 June 1942 St Malo convoy diary

War Diary of Convoy Office St Malo, 16–30 June 1942, with two annexes; Fregattenkapitän Dr Diederichs, chief of 2nd Patrol Flotilla. Cover Kr 19462 on scan 0378; title on 0381. Guernsey: weak W–NW breeze, fine to cloudy, visibility ten nautical miles, calm sea. 06:45: V 202/207 and Antonius arrive. I exchange V 202 and V 203 at Guernsey. V 208’s commander, Leutnant zur See Lorey, is seriously ill and will return to St Malo with the evening convoy. V 202 leads the section; V 208 is commanded by its first watch officer.

07:15: V 203/207 leave Guernsey alone for Alderney, then with Heinrich and Weber to Cherbourg. 08:25 St Malo: V 211/213 leave via Granville and Jersey for Guernsey with convoy, later proceeding to Alderney. 23:05 Guernsey: V 202/208 and convoy leave for St Malo. 23:30 St Malo: V 204/209 and convoy leave via Jersey for Guernsey. Otherwise operations follow plan.

Situation: V 202/207 night troop convoy with Antonius, listed Alderney–Jersey [narrative gives arrival Guernsey]; V 203/208 finish Holland night convoy Jersey–Guernsey; V 203/207 alone Guernsey–Alderney, then Heinrich and Weber to Cherbourg; V 202/208 ready Guernsey for Holland night troop convoy to Jersey; V 204/209 finish Minotaure and Maas Jersey–St Malo convoy then ready for RO 21, Nordplain and Karel to Jersey overnight; V 211/213 alone to Granville then Rheinland, Saigon, Comptoir 66, Diamant and Hubbastone via Jersey to Guernsey, then ready for troop convoy to Alderney; V 206 coaling St Malo. Tonnage 9,680 GRT.

Intentions for 17 June: V 203/207 overnight Mikimaus then ready Cherbourg; V 202/208 complete Holland and Ad. le Prince convoy Jersey–St Malo; V 204/209 complete Nordplain and Karel convoy Jersey–Guernsey; V 211/213 Guernsey–Alderney with Antonius overnight, possible return convoy then ready; V 206 ready St Malo. St Malo Roads cannot be occupied for lack of boats.
