Normandy war diary — 16/12/1940
Weather: winds veering through west, force 3/4. Cloudy, visibility poor at times.
0930: A Vickers Wellington approaches Querqueville airfield, passing over the sea from 2 towards 12 at 1,000–1,500 m. It approaches in cloud and becomes visible only abreast Querqueville in a light layer of haze. Engaged with concentrated fire and turns away towards 12.
0940: Sea Commandant leaves on an inspection tour of his command area, visiting St Malo, Paimpol, Granville, Carteret and St Brieuc.
1328: A Bristol Blenheim approaches Guernsey airfield at 1,600 m, flying from 9 towards 3 and dropping five light bombs. When fired on it turns towards 9 and disappears in cloud. One English worker killed, two German soldiers and one Englishman wounded. An air-force lean-to roof is destroyed by fragments. [Signed Fink.]
