Diary Entry
15 January 1944
A technical report warned that the serviceability of all four 30.5 cm guns at Battery Mirus was doubtful after repeated failures of the driving components on Nos. 3 and 4 guns. Mirus was described as the only heavy battery on the Channel Islands and therefore of exceptional importance to the islands' defence. Admiral Channel Coast asked Naval Group West to investigate replacing its barrels, possibly with 28 cm barrels. [T-1022/2174, PG 38468, scan 0138]
