Diary Entry

14 May 1941 Further instruction on the Guernsey battalion

The Army High Command’s intended organisation called for Machine-Gun Battalion 16 to be removed from Guernsey without replacement. The 319th Division was to report whether this was possible, what relief could be carried out from divisional resources, how the battalion’s infantry and anti-tank guns could be replaced if necessary, and what training was possible on Guernsey if the battalion were withdrawn from immediate coastal defence. Command-post designations using a superior’s name conformed to a Ninth Army instruction and were to be retained pending new orders from Higher Command.
