13–14 November 1943 Channel Islands battery construction
No special occurrences for 13–14 November. Construction report, Naval Artillery Battalion 604.
Batterie Mirus: infantry positions were expanded and pits providing cover against tanks were built for training. Work continued on cable trenches, the fitting-out of anti-aircraft bunkers Nos. 1, 2 and 9, the road at No. 2 gun and enlargement of the sunken shaft before the entrance to No. 4 gun. Krupp continued work on No. 3 gun.
Batterie Steinbruch: the lining and fitting-out of crew bunker No. 2 and the water mains to the main fire-control post, medical bunker, No. 2 gun and anti-aircraft position No. 1 were completed. The other water mains and crew bunker No. 1 continued. The communication trench to the armoured cupola was supported and demolition of the auxiliary fire-control post continued. Organisation Todt camouflaged anti-aircraft position No. 1, the main-post communication trench and cupola, and the entrances to water tank No. 1, the main ammunition bunker and the sentry post at the main entrance. Banking at crew bunkers Nos. 1 and 2 and anti-aircraft position No. 2, and road work, continued.
Batterie Strassburg: close-defence and foreground-levelling work continued. Painting of the lower storey of the fire-control post began.
Batterie Lothringen: camouflage work, armoured hoods, rifle pits and alternative machine-gun positions continued. Fifteen-centimetre shells and emergency rations were moved.
Batterie Annes, Organisation Todt: clearance and removal of construction timber continued. Work began on erecting the electrical machinery, making trenches for power cables and excavating for a return-cooling installation. Battery work: the old garage was demolished and a new, lower shed erected in its place. A drainage ditch was made at the fire-control-post entrance. Construction began on a splinter-proof shelter at the third 2-cm anti-aircraft position. Clearance and camouflage continued.
