Wind N–NE3–4, moderate visibility, sea 2, haze in places. From Sea Commandant: increased defensive readiness 2100 on 11 September to 0700 on 12 September.

0145: Own naval and Air Force sets track several unknown surface targets via BF3519, 3518, back to 3519, then 3543. 0206: Locating signal concerning unknown surface target in BF3518 transmitted. Sea Commandants Normandy and Channel Islands, Group West, 3rd Security Division, Commander of E-boats and St Malo convoy control kept continuously informed. All detections passed especially to Commander of E-boats. On Sea Commandant’s order, detections passed to batteries from 0320. Stahl Battery fires one salvo each at 0342 and 0344 on Sea Commandant’s order. 0950 [as typed]: Targets departing northwest. 0155: Enemy irradiation at La Pernelle ends. 0215: Enemy irradiation at Cap Lévy ends. [Hour obscured] 00: Enemy irradiation at Cap Hague II ends. 0325–0410: Arromanches enemy irradiation 24–44°. Own movement Cherbourg–Alderney recalled south of point 324 because of enemy detections.
