Weather at 1200: West-northwest force 6–8; overcast; visibility two kilometres.
1815: On passage from Cherbourg to the Channel Islands, the tug Thor gets into distress in the storm two nautical miles north of Cap de la Hague Naval Signal Station. It sinks at 1840. Shore rescue is initiated immediately and two naval motor launches sent to assist. Rescue efforts are unsuccessful. Of the eight-man crew, one survivor and five dead are washed ashore.
