10 April 1943 Channel Islands Sea Defence diary
Weather: wind 360°, 2 m/sec. From 10:00 to 12:30, Army Coast Batteries 471, 464 and 466 conducted practice firing at a towed target. Ammunition expenditure: 29 rounds 22-cm and 45 rounds 21-cm.
Batterie Mirus: the cable shafts at all four guns had been drained, the soakaways completed and the filling work was under way. A large water tank was poured at No. 1 gun. The base of anti-aircraft position 2 was complete and the embankments at the guns continued. Battery personnel resumed construction of the mess barrack, began an arrest room and continued the second 7.5-cm gun position.
Batterie Strasbourg: the new fire-control post received its optical instruments; all except the rangefinder had been installed. Battery personnel completed the splinter protection to the right of No. 4 gun and finished the infantry positions at the guns.
Batterie Steinbruch: after cement arrived, the bunker at No. 2 gun and the crew bunker for No. 2 gun detachment were poured.
Batterie Lothringen: excavation for the fire-control post continued. The shelter bunker for the searchlight B generator had been poured. Battery personnel continued improving the all-round wire obstacle. All ammunition was reworked.
Naval Artillery Battalion 605 — Batterie Annes, Organisation Todt work: accommodation bunker 4 was poured; excavation for the machinery bunker and ammunition replenishment bunker I resumed. The underground cable between the fire-control post and Fu.M.G. radar position was laid. The firm Neumeyer of Saarbrücken was replaced by Deubau for the associated construction work. Battery personnel strengthened the wire obstacle and developed the machine-gun and anti-aircraft positions.
