Communication Bunkers
In 1941 The German Signal Battalion 319 arrived to set up and take command of all communications in the islands. The Headquarters were located in Guernsey with two companies and Jersey had one Company. There was a small detachment in Alderney. The laying of the communication cable was the responsibility of the Fortress Cable Platoon. This network, where possible, would be buried 2 meters and protected with concrete conduits. The communications were centred at the Battle HQ's at Kernwerk the cables also interconnected with local lines. A german presence was therefore required at all civilian exchanges.

Built into this network was three main exchanges in Type 617 bunkers the N2, N12 and the N22. Also Two Type 618sk bunkers at Kernwerk for Senior German Command. At Trinity, a repeater station was set up in a bunker that would become the Jersey Civil Defence Command Bunker.
